It serves as the setting for the original trilogy of films entitled ''A New Hope'', ''The Empire Strikes Back'', and ''Return of the Jedi'', as well as many novels, comics, and video games in the ''Star Wars'' expanded universe. The war was fought between the ruling Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
